Daily Log - Wednesday
In an effort to give you a glimpse of a media member’s experience at LIV Golf Tulsa, I will provide a daily log of my adventures.
9:36 AM
Looking for Parking Lot A, which is allegedly at a church offsite. I found Vacation Bible School, but no Parking Lot A.
9:42 AM
Turns out Parking Lot A is on the backside of the church. Silly me. As I board the shuttle, I glance at my watch. We’re right around the corner, so we should be there in plenty of time to catch the 10 AM interviews.
9:47 AM
We roll into the parking lot at Cedar Ridge Country Club and file toward the media tent. No one is here to issue my credential.
10:08 AM
It turns out the 10 AM interviews were in a different location. Silly me again. As I set up my work station, Dan Hawk of 1170 The Blitz vociferously interviews Bubba Watson.
10:27 AM
I only have a couple of hours down here today, and I need to make the most of them. As I eagerly await the transcripts from the interviews I missed (Talor Gooch, Peter Uihlein and Charles Howell III), I grab a late breakfast/early lunch.
10:50 AM
Good chat with Bill Haisten (Tulsa World) about the state of high school athletics in Oklahoma. Forgot to eat.
11:00 AM
Head to the driving range with TJ Eckert (KTUL) and Cayden McFarland (KJRH). Talor Gooch is finishing his session and Phil Mickelson is stretching out. We stay for Phil’s session.
11:20 AM
Up to the short game area. Mito Pereira, Joaquin Niemann and Patrick Reed are firing wedges and pins. Patrick Reed’s caddie is on the ground, his entire torso buried in Reed’s upturned golf bag, either stuck or searching for something. “That towel has been lost in there for like two weeks,” he later claims.
11:30 AM
I meet up with Dan Hawk just off the first tee box. Peter Uihlein is teeing off in his practice round. After they clear the tee box, we backtrack across the 18th fairway, then the 10th tee where he’s trying to catch up with Mickelson. I split off to see what else is going on around the clubhouse.
11:50 AM
Head back to the media tent. Looking at my phone, I nearly form tackle Brooks Koepka. Sorry, big guy.
11:53 AM
It’s lunchtime – there’s a refrigerator with an assortment of prepackaged sandwiches and salads, but I’m told a buffet will be served in just a few minutes if I can hold out.
NOON
While we’re waiting on lunch, I chat with Sam Humphreys, Taylor Williams and Jim Woodward (73rd Hole Podcast). Jim has some pretty hilarious stories about his days in Stillwater.
12:08 PM
Lunch is served. Lox and grilled chicken with Waldorf salad, washed down with a Perrier. Snickers bar for dessert. Very tasty. Would eat again.
12:22 PM
Scrambling to jot down my observations before running to catch a shuttle back to the parking lot, but I find myself people watching instead. The local sports media is out in full force this week.
12:40 PM
Back on the shuttle headed to my car. I’m on Dad duty the rest of the day. More to come tomorrow.
