Daily Log - Thursday

7:47 AM

Grab the shuttle at Lot A. I take one of the last two seats available.

8:02 AM

Enter the Media Center. The air conditioning is quite effective – I am sorely missing a jacket. I have a feeling it will be welcomed this afternoon, though.

8:15 AM

Cameron Jourdan (Golfweek) grabs the seat next to mine. He’s spending a day or two in town before he heads to DFW for the Byron Nelson.

8:17 AM

Breakfast. Tomato and cheese croissant and a chocolate scone. The commercial coffee pot is only spewing hot water, but the Italian looking fancy Keurig makes a pretty good cappuccino.

8:30 AM

Write.

8:55 AM

Head out to the breakout area to catch an interview with Smash GC (Brooks and Chase Koepka, Jason Kokrak and Matt Wolff). It’s drizzling and the pro-am is getting underway.

10:01 AM

Lt. Col. Dan Rooney (Folds of Honor) and Mark Daigneault (OKC Thunder) are playing in the pro-am with Phil Mickelson. Daigneault – a lefty himself – defies the laws of physics and tops his drive behind him, careening toward a helpless crowd of media members and bystanders. Red Dirt Golf’s own TJ Eckert was the unlucky victim, taking the brunt of the little white ball on the lens guard of his brand-new camera. The reaction of the exchange was such that the ball fell back at Daigneault’s feet. “That was the best trick shot I’ve ever seen,” said Phil.

10:30 AM

Back to the Media Center. Write.

11:00 AM

Dan Hawk (1170 The Blitz) jokingly asks if I want to join the tail end of his broadcast. I non-jokingly take him up on the offer. The video of TJ getting hit by Daigneault’s ball is quickly going viral.

11:45 AM

TJ and I record our daily LIV Live Recap. Michelle Montaine (KTUL) makes a surprise appearance.

12:35 PM

Lunch. Smoked salmon, potato salad and a delicious salted caramel and chocolate brownie.

2:15 PM

Editing the podcast is complete. Back out to the course.

2:45 PM

Chase Koepka is back out on the short range. Matt Wolff is goofing around the practice green. As I walk by the main stage, sound check is in full force. I’m curious to see how loud they have get it during the tournament, because it feels like the Media Center is about to fall down.

2:55 PM

Write.

4:40 PM

Time to head home. My mother-in-law is coming to town next week and we need to start thinking about cleaning the house.
